FUNCTIONAL ORTHODONTICS

Learning and cooperation: for practitioners and dental assistants

Functional education calls into question the technological and relational foundations of

This is ecological medicine, involving several special and general functions of the child in order to adapt to their environment. It associates other disciplines, and its priority is the child’s sustainable development. This is functional orthopedics. Its primary tools are the use of an orthosis: the functional splint, which may be combined with any other type of functional orthoses and with any conventional means of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

These orthoses must be obligatorily used alongside learning or correcting oro-facial functions and overall health: swallowing, breathing, eating, posture, sleep.

The well-being resulting from the alliance between the body and the therapeutic relationship in the patient goes far beyond the benefit of physical health. To that end, practitioners and dental assistants are invited to work as a team to educate and support the child in their development.
Cooperation is an essential therapeutic condition, requiring specific knowledge: medical psychology.

Based on his practice and experience, Marc-Gérald Choukroun produces a real guide for practitioners and dental assistants. He presents his clinical observations and the results obtained through concrete case studies. He also builds on the work of Daniel Rollet, who has contributed greatly to advancing the vision of dentofacial orthopedics and to bringing together all those contributing to functional education and early treatments.

This guide presents the essentials of the method and the tools to practice orthodontic functional education effectively
